Motorcycle Repair: 83 virago 500, vent tubes, virago 500

HI I AVE A CARB PROBLEM. I CAN DRIVE THE BIKE WITH NO PROBLEMS BUT EVERY COUPLE OF WEEKS I WILL GO TO WORK AND COME OUT AND THERE HAS BEEN GAS ON THE GROUND. THE BIKE THEN WON'T START CHECK THE TANK AND IT IS EMPTY PUT GAS BACK INTO IT IT WILL START AND RUN GREAT BUT SHUT IT OFF AND IT WILL LEAK GAS OUT OF THE VENT TUBES UNDER THE SEAT AGAIN. PLEASE HELP ME

Dom,

-do you notice any pressure in the gas tank?
It could be a blocked tank vent. The pressure
would force fuel out.
-these bikes were prone to gas petcock valve leaks.
It may need rebuilding or replacment.
Some KZ Kawasaki's may be similar kits.
-the carb float needle/valves may be bad or
may have dirt or rubber in them allowing fuel to leak.
-if it leaks all the gas out, I suspect
the petcock valve is leaking or float valves
or both.
