Motorcycle Repair: foreman cooling fan, fan control, temp sensor

Question
I have a honda 450s and the cooling fan has stopped working. The fan will run if I jump the temp sensor. I would like to Know how to check wether the fan control unit is bad or the temp sensor.
                               Thanks  Robert

Answer
Robert,

-if it runs when you jump the sensor, then the
fan control unit is likely okay as the fan
started running when you did this.
-This would indicate that if the sensor was working,
the fan should work.
The fan has a black or blue wire which
has power to it. The other wire (green)
goes to the control module.
The sensor has a yellow/blue wire that goes
into the control module as well.
I believe the module just relays
the message from the sensor
to the fan, the sensor grounds the wire
and then that ground gets relayed to
the fans green wire which starts the fan
turning. I am not sure why the module is
needed,  It might work with a good
sensor connected to the fans green wire.
Anyway, I think it is likely the sensor
from the info you gave me.
