Motorcycle Repair: Fuse blowing, suzuki gs 1100, test light

Question
Hi Wayne,  My 82 Suzuki GS 1100 EZ blew the main fuse while running about a month ago.  Replaced it and ran fine, but now it died again and will blow a fuse as soon as I place one in the holder with key off or on.  I've inspected the loom the best I can. Local mechanic says it's the ignition switch. Is this your opinion too?

Answer
Roger,

-it's a dead short somewhere alright, my suggestion
would be to unplug the ignition switch and
try it again. If it blows the fuse then the
switch is not likely the problem.

-If it only blows with the switch connected,
but ignition off, it is possibly a faulty switch.

-If it only blows with the switch connected but
ignition on, then you need to put a test light
across where the main fuse goes and start
disconnecting things until the light goes
out or gets very weak.(with switch off)
It could be some faulty device or a wire rubbed through
somewhere to the frame.
