Motorcycle Repair: 2002 Yamaha V-star 1100, amp fuse, yamaha v star

Question
Hi Wayne,  I am looking to buy a used 1100 Yamaha.  The bike i am interested in won't start.  Owner charged the battery but we only hear a  constant clicking sound from somewhere under the seat when the start button is pushed.  Is there a relay or something to check before we look at the starter motor?     Any info would be a help Thanks - Bill

Answer
Bill,

-yes there is a starter relay, is the battery good?
-Make sure the battery cables are tight, clean etc.
-The relay is under the seat with a 30 amp fuse
on it and you can check both sides for battery
voltage when the starter button is pushed.
-If you have a good battery and voltage on
both relay terminals, then check for power
on the starter terminal.
-If you have power going to the starter,
and it doesn't turn, it may be stuck
or maybe has a bad ground connection.
You may want to check the starter first
and then move up to the relay terminals,
whichever seems easier to check.
Always check any connectors nearby for loose wires
or corrosion.
