Motorcycle Repair: Ironhead Sportster clutch problems, xlh sportster, clutch lever

Question
QUESTION: I have a 1973 XLH Sportster. I put the wrong (10W40) oil in the primary. The clutch was slipping so I went to the dealer and bought the right oil. After I drained out the wrong oil I tried to adjust the clutch cable but I could not pull the clutch lever AT ALL!! I followed the adjustment procedure several times to no avail....the clutch lever will not engage the clutch! Have I killed my new friend? What do I do??

ANSWER: What oil did the dealer have you put in?

QUESTION: Dealer had me put formula + in the case. Should I be able to move the clutch release plate by hand?? (By pushing in on it?)

Answer
Not sure what formula oil is, but you should be running SAE50 weight in it. I read in your responce that you put in 32 oz. It takes 24 ozs. What ever that was you put in might be wrong.
Also, to adjust he clutch, loosen the clutch cable so there is slack in it. Push the cable back towards the primary cover and then adjus the clutch  and then the cable. you might not have the release all the way back when you adjusted it
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
