Motorcycle Repair: Goldwing transmission problem, worn gears, shift forks

Question
I have a 94 goldwing ,It's making noise around oil filter area, when you engage the clutch it makes noise sometimes and when you shift into fourth gear it jumps out sounds like a chattering noise . Thanks Clint

Answer
Clint,

sounds like the front shifter dogs are worn,
you could remove the front cover under
the oil filter and water pump etc. and see
if the shift drum stopper or locator is
working. It keeps the shift drum in place and
so also the shift forks and gears.
Unfortunately you have to remove and split
the engine to replace the shifter gears
and any other worn gears or shift forks.
The noises are likely the gear dogs slipping
on the gears. Check your oil for any metal
filings. No easy fix for worn gears or forks,
just have to make sure you inspect and reassemble
it well using a good shop manual.
