Motorcycle Repair: 1976 CB750 Exhaust, screw extractors, rear muffler

Question
I'm having trouble removing the exhaust on my '76 CB750. The Phillips head bolts are really tight and they seem as if they'll strip. Is there a better way than using an impact driver. Thanks for your time,

Answer
Grant,
Note:
(I have had better luck with the tapered square
screw extractors than with the spiral type)

if you remove the header clamp bolts/nuts
and the bottom rear muffler bolts, you should be able
to lift the pipes off the bike.
Often, the screws get very rusty
or corroded which locks them up.
If a hand impact doesn't work, you will
have to use penetrating oil and possibly
even a chisel or drill extractors to get them
out. Of course you may need to replace the screws.
There is no secret other than hard work.
You could try heating them but either
way the screws may take some damage before
they come out.
You could replace them with allen head bolts
to make it easier next time.
