Motorcycle Repair: Yamaha grizzly 600, yamaha grizzly 600, rear drive shaft

Question
I need to pull the engine on my 99 grizzly 4x4. The manual does not address the front axel on engine removal at all . How does the front drive shaft come out . Also ? on the rear?.the manual refers to complete dissembly or the rear axel and swing arm . Is it necessary to gain removal of the rear drive shaft. has anyone taken one of these apart before.?

Thanks , did not know what I was getting into on the ATV . it has a knocking rod/? any help thanks.

Answer
Jay,
you may have to remove the axles and both drive assemblies
to get the drive shafts out of the engine, alot
of work. If the rod is loose, the crankshaft has
to be pressed apart and rebuilt or a new/used
crank found. It often takes some special pullers
to properly remove and insert these parts.
Without the proper tools damage can result.
Most shops have the tools but are costly
for most owners to purchase.
You have a big project there so if you go ahead
with it keep parts organized and even take
pictures to aid reassembly.
You might want to check bikebandit.com
for parts diagrams and parts availability.
