Motorcycle Repair: cam timing on a 1979 flh, cam timing, cam gear

Question
The H-D service manual is vague on the cam gear setting. It doesn't tell us if the engine should be set at tdc when installing the cam and breather gear and lining up all three gear marks. On my model,1979 flh, if I set the engine to tdc ,using the 5btdc mark, the gear is nowhere near where it should be. Has someone set it up wrong? Or does it need to be at tdc to set cam timing? Thanks if you can help!

Answer
When installing the cam gear and breather gear just rotate the motor until the mark on the pinion gear is up. then lign the mark on the cam to the mark on the pinion gear. Then install the breather and lign the mark on it to the cam. It doesnt have to be on TDC
Good luck and happy riding
