Motorcycle Repair: Starter selonoid, selonoid, desil

Hi, I have a 1983 XJ750K Yamaha Maxim and it happened twice that the engine will not cut off. Someone told me perhaps it was the starter selonoid. The kill switch will not kill engine, the key, nor popping the clutch. I have diconnected the battery and let sit before and it did kill after hours of letting it sit. I have no clue as to what would cause this, can you help????

Hello Jennifer,
this really has me cunfused but a starter selonoid should only pop on and off with the button if it was sticking it would engage the starter and u would hear this. I have seen a motor for say desil's and run for a few minutes. This really has me confused. Let me think and get back to you If it happens agian take the spark plug boot off
