Motorcycle Repair: Clutch wont disengage, clutch lever, friction plates

Question
I have a 1980 Sportster, removed the primary cover to change the gasket, never touched the clutch or cable. Replaced cover and fluids (straight 50W, same weight that came out) started it up, pulled in the clutch (good pressure in clutch lever) dropped it in first and stalled out. Tried adjusting cable and clutch adjuster. Clutch will not disengage no matter how much adjusting is done. Took clutch apart, friction plates look ok, parts not worn out, shiny  ect. Clutch worked prior to primary cover coming off.

Answer
Loosen the cable so you have alot slack in it. Loosen the adjuster. When you turn the adjuster push inward on the cable so the actuator is all the way back. Turnt he adjuster screw inward until it touches and then back out 1/8 of a turn. Adust he cable so you have about 1/8 inch play in the clutch lever
Good luck and happy riding
