Motorcycle Repair: module, good luck, fx

i was riding my motorcycle (1993 fx/softail) and my module burnt. i got a new one but i am afraid to put it in and have it burn again. what can i do in order to prevent that from happening again? is there anything i should look for before putting in the new part? how is everything supposed to be connected?

You modual probably just shorted out, which happens at times. The only other thing that could cause it to burn would be a short in the wiring, so i would check it. Not sure what you mean by how things are suppose to be connected, it is a plug in.
