Motorcycle Repair: 2000 Low Rider, compression test, low rider

Question
Hi. I've been looking at a 2000 HD Low Rider with 31,000 miles. It looked pristine and sounded even better, but had no chance to ride it. How many more miles should I expect to get out of it (assuming it hasn't been ridden hard, which we don't know) before I have to start looking at a motor overhaul or any other major repairs? Thanks.

Answer
Thats really hard to say. I have a friend who has ridden his bike over 80,000 miles without a problem. Only has done regulator maintance. Taken care of they will last along time. The problem is, like any other motor, they have bearings and bearings fail with time.
I would have a compression test done on it to be sure that it doesnt need pistons. You can also check the condition of the plugs. If they are black and wet it is buring oil and will need a top end done.
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
