Motorcycle Repair: heat light comes on then back fires, kawasaki 1500, dielectric grease

Question
My bike is a kawasaki 1500 Vulcan, 2004. While on a trip my heat light would come on just for a few seconds and then go off. Sometimes it would backfire. the further I would go the worse it would get. I would stop for just a few minutes then it would run good. then it would happen again.Twice it stalled out, and would not run. After setting for about 15 min. it would run great. Then after about 20 or 30 miles the problem would start all over again.

Answer
Ron,
It could be electrical or a lack of fuel.
check for loose connections, start with the battery cables.
Also any sensors you can see, the electrical connections at the fuse box. There are two large connectors that can corrode. Clean the connectors and apply some dielectric grease to them. Get the special grease at an auto store or electronics store.
Check for vacuum/pressure in the gas tank, could be a plugged vent preventing fuel flow.
Check fuel filter, and fuel pump flow.
Sometimes ignition pulser coils will act up when hot.
The overheat sensor is on the left side of radiator, one wire. Is your radiator fan coming on okay when hot?
Sometimes wires above the cylinder heads can
rub through but usually blows a fuse.
