Motorcycle Repair: Engine dies when standing up bike, yamaha fz750, yamaha dealers

Question
Hi....I have an 85 yamaha FZ750 and after stalling in 1st at a traffic light,i've been unable to get the bike to start up again. It starts and idles when tilted on it's stand but when i clutch in and stand the bike vertical it dies out. After a multiple atempts the batery dies and the wires close to the batery are hot.Yamaha dealers think it might be a short, but why all of a sudden??????? Clutch switch? Kickstand switch? Relays? Neutral? i'm so confused....

Answer
Alexandre,

-sounds like the fuel pump or the
reserve mode sensor in the gas tank or
the fuel controller.
Check for fuel pumping.
Check the fuses and wires on the pump. Check this page for more info:

-The bike should not run with the side stand down.
May need to check the side stand switch
for continuity. It is on/off.

-Starter wires will get hot if you are trying to
start it multiple times.
