Motorcycle Repair: My Suzuki 50cc, suzuki 50cc, crankshaft seal

Question
I know you prefer honda questions but maybe you could help me with this i have a suzuki 50cc dirtbike a older model  and it will start but i have to keep the gas on half way for it to stay running? I'm thinking the carburetor adjustments? If so what are they and if not maybe you could help me out or aim me towards someone that can help me out with me having to pay for it to be fixed THANKS Jeff  jeffreydanderson@hotmail.com

Answer
Jeffrey, Engines that won't stay running at slow speeds usually have one or more of the following problems:

Carburetor idle jet is plugged by dirt or water or corrosion. Carburetors have idle circuits, tapered needles on the carb slides that can be adjusted, main jets that can be changed and choke circuits that can also affect running at low speeds.

Engine ignition timing is WAY off specifications. If the bike is old enough to have points and condenser, then the point gap and timing need attention. If you have CDI or electronic ignition, then disregard

Engine is worn out or damaged and has very low compression. 2 stroke compression should be at least 100 psi.

Search the web for "SUZUKI ___" whatever the model is and see if there is a specific website for your model. Assuming that it is probably a 2 stroke (mix oil and gas in the engine), there are other possibilities of having a bad crankshaft seal on ignition/flywheel side (air leak) or on the transmission side (oil leak, drawing transmission oil into the engine, which fouls the plugs).

Without knowing the year, model and type of engine and carburetor no one can help you, even for free.
