Motorcycle Repair: installing starter on 81 fxe with open primary, oil tank, oil tanks

I have a 81 fxe shovelhead with a open primary, kick only. the oil bag is the horseshoe type. I am looking for the least expensive way to install a starter. I have thought about reinstalling the inner primary to hold the solenoid and starter, but I have been told that the starter would not fit with the horseshoe oil tank. do you have any suggestions ?

Its going to depend on how low the oil tank sits. There are so many aftermarket oil tanks that sit differently. What you need to do is do some measuring to see if the starter will fit with the oil tank you have. The only other thing you can do is install a starter without the inner primary.
