Motorcycle Repair: motorcycle 1985 v-45 Honda, fuel air mixture, jet size

Question
I had carbs rebuilt by classic carbs , new tank, fuel pump and components, bike runs real well at idle and low end. But when I apply the throttle at 25mph or greater it hesitates, and has flat spots. Any ideas?

Answer
Ted,
It sounds lean at mid-throttle. You could try
raising the carb needles a notch by lowering the clip,
that will richen the fuel/air mixture.
If it is really bad, check the plug color
to see if it is rich (black) or lean (white).
If it is light colored, you may need a small
increase in main jet size. I assume the carbs
are clean if they were rebuilt.
