Motorcycle Repair: Ninja Balance shaft timing, ninja ex500, mechanic friend

Question
About 6 months ago I layed down my 91 Ninja ex500 at a low speed on the drivers side. When I went to right the bike and start it, it made a single clank sound and wouldnt start . My mechanic friend and I have taken it completely apart including scoping the inside of the engine after removing the bottom pan he says my balance shaft is out of time and that is what is making the sound on it's upward rotation. Is their anyway to readjust this or time this? there is nothing about this problem in my manual

Answer
Hi,
I believe the balancer is driven by a gear on the
right side of the engine and runs off the
crankshaft. Just going on my experience
I imagine there are timing marks on these gears
to line up. I would double check any clanking noises
as it could cause serious damage depending what it is.
Luck to you
