Motorcycle Repair: 1985 Suzuki Intruder, suzuki intruder, overflow tube

Question
I have a 1985 Suzuki Intruder that started shooting gas from the (Front Cylinder)carburetor overflow tube. The rear cylinder is running fine. The bike is running on one cylinder. When I disconnect the wire going to the Ignition coil the gas stops shooting out of the carburetor tube. I plug it back in and the gas starts flowing again from the same tube. The bike continues to runs on one cylinder. I've checked the spark plug and I am getting spark.
In addition when I disconnect the wire going to the ignition coil the gas flows into the cylinder and comes out of the exhaust. This is a problem that I have not heard of before, can you help?

Answer
Hi John,

The fuel pump or fuel pump cut-off relay may be defective. I recommend that you get a copy of the service manual and learn about testing these components.

It's possible that the fuel in the carburetor float bowl and/or the needle valve has varnished.

Avoid replacing parts without verifying that the parts a re defective.
