Motorcycle Repair: back fire, stock carb, qustion

Question
QUESTION: I just bought a 1999 Road King Classic. It has hooker 2 into 1 exhaust. I get a lot of back firing when I let off of the gas or downshift too fast. What is causing this and how can I fix it?
ANSWER: Do you have a stock carb?

QUESTION: It has Sequential Port Injection
ANSWER: Backfiring is a sign that you are running lean. Since your bike is injected you would have to have the EMC remapped.

QUESTION: Thank you for your response to my question. Trying not to sound like a total idiot, What is an EMC?
And another thing, I just noticed this morning that my left side tail pipe is leaking oil. Please tell me that this is not serious.
ANSWER: No qustion is a stupid question. Its all a learning process!
The EMC is the brain of the bike which gathers info and tells the bike when to fire, how much to advance the ignition and how much fuel to run through the injectors.
If you have oil in your tail pipe, its not good. You are having oil being dumped into the cylinder. Either through the valve guide or a bad ring.

QUESTION: Is this easily repairable and how expensive a job am I looking at?

Answer
If you have oil coming out of the exhaust then you will have to pull the heads and cylinders to see what the problem is. I cant comment on how much it will cost due to the fact that prices are different all over the country and different at shops.
Good luck and happy riding
