Motorcycle Repair: Ignition issues - 95HD Sportster 1200, sportster 1200, loose wires

Question
Just bought this nice bike and while riding it today it just shut down, like if you where to hit the engine stop switch.  I did not hit it thou.  Started back up ran a second and quit.  After that it acted like it wanted to start by did not.  It has fuel.  Now it just clicks when I try to turn it over.  Also, when that happens the odometer goes blank and then comes back.  Lights are working and I check for loose wires.  What do trouble shooting should I do to find the issue?  Could it be the ignition just went out?  I left a message with the guy I bought it from, maybe he will know.  The bike ran well this morning.  Could I have knocked something loose when I was transporting in on the trailer?
Thanks for the help.

Answer
Could be lots of things but if it just clicks you're not getting enough voltage = low battery or bad connection.  Check both battery cable connections to see if they're tight.  Battery should have at least 12.8 volts when you check it not running.  Also could be the ignition switch.  Check for power going into and out of the switch in the on position.
