Motorcycle Repair: s&s shorty carburator adjustments, carburator, shorty

Question
i have a 1980 harley xls with a s&s shorty on it and i was wondering and playing with all the screws on it and its not goin well any help?

Answer
Remember the adjusting screws are only for idle.  Your intermediate and main jets set the mixture for low, mid, and high rpm.  The idle mixture screw is the one on TOP thats angled out towards the air filter.  Gently bottom it out(clockwise) and then back it out 1 1/2 turns.  The idle SPEED screw is on the side of the carb.  If you don't have the right jets your bike won't run right anyway.  You didn't say if it was a Super E or G and what size your motor is.
