Motorcycle Repair: running hot, thermo sensor, proper mixture

i bought a 2001 Yamaha Kodak 2x4. some times will riding the light comes on showing that it is hot. what should i check or do to correct this problem?

Hi Jeff,

First, I recommend that you get a copy of the repair manual and learn about testing, reapiring, and maintaining your Kodiak properly.

Check the radiator for obstructions such as mud. Rinse the radiator fins with low pressure water if necessary.

Check coolant for proper mixture. 50% water is recommended.

Check for air in the cooling system. Air lowers the boiling point of coolant and is the leading cause for overheating.

Check thermo sensor, fan switch, and thermostat for proper operation.
