Motorcycle Repair: 1983 Honda CX 650 starter, honda cx 650, starter clutch

Question
The starter clutch (I'm told) is bad and needs replacing.  It skips and gives a stripping or missing sound.  How do I replace it?  Is there an easy way to make it work?

Answer
Bruce, you are in for an education. Starter clutch repairs require pulling the motor, buying a special flywheel rotor removal tool and the starter clutch springs, rollers, gaskets, oil seals, a water pump seal, etc.

http://cx500.gobinet.se/smb/thread.cfm?TID=1777  gives you some clues.   500s and 650s are very much the same in this respect.  You can get some online illustrations at Bikebandits.com but I recommend you do some research, buy some tools and a good shop manual before diving in there.

Sorry, no easy way out on this one... I've got a GL650I with 54k miles on it and I hope I don't have to tackle that one, myself. While you are in there, you can take a look at the camchain and tensioner parts.
