Motorcycle Repair: Blinkers work someitmes, motorcycle batteries, battery cells

Question
i recently bought a 94 dr250s? it an enduro with the blinkers and lights for street use.  when i turn on the blinkers while the bike is idling, they blink very slowly, but when i am riding and the rpms are up, they blink normal.  would this be my battery or relay, etc?  thanks for the time.

Answer
Hi Jacob,

The battery may be defective, worn, or simply need recharged.

Alternator output increases with engine speed (RPM). Higher RPM's supplies adequate current/voltage to the turn signals causing them to work properly when engine is revved.

Test battery voltage with a multimeter. Test individual battery cells with a hydrometer designed for motorcycle batteries. Charge or replace the battery accordingly.

Test alternator output voltage with a multimeter.

I recommend getting a copy of the service manual for specifics on testing.
