Motorcycle Repair: Pipes, fuel processor, drag specialties

Question
Hi, last year I purchased a 2006 Dyna Super Glide Custom. I am in desperatly in need of some new pipes or mufflers. I'm almost embarrassed to ride a Harley that sounds that weak. My dilemma is I have no idea what to look for or what I need. My dealer here is reluctant to do to much because of emission laws or something. What do you suggest.

Answer
Talk to a different dealer.  If you're looking to just make noise, you came to the wrong guy.  I'm a big fan of Harley's "race only" Screamin' Eagle II slip-on mufflers which they stopped making.  But you can find them on the shelf of many dealers.  They cost about $250 a pair.  They have minimal restriction, have a great tone and sound super when you nail it, but you can also drive through the neighborhood quietly if you go easy on the throttle.  You can't do that with Vance & Hines, Samson, Cobra etc.  Make sure they are the "II" model and not the plain "Screamin' Eagle" mufflers.  If your bike is fuel injected you can put them on without any mod's and get by, but the best combination is to put on a Screamin' Eagle hi-flow air cleaner kit and a fuel processor like the Cobra from Drag Specialties.  If you are carbureted, then just do the A/C kit and rejet a hair richer.  The A/C kit is 139.95 and the Cobra fuel processor is 239.95.  Have someone that's done it before install them.  Should take about an hour to do all three modifications by an experienced mechanic. And you will pick up six to eight horsepower.
