Motorcycle Repair: gearbox, suzuki gsxr 1100, model 91

hi, hope you can help , my fourth gear on my suzuki gsxr 1100(n model 91 j)makes a really loud whining noise,the rest of the gears are fine.bike has only done 18000, miles.im worried the box will jam? any advice.  thank you.

It is time for some new bearings on the main shaft.The whining noise you are hearing is the gears not meshing the way that they were meant to.Yes your trans could lock up at any time.I suggest taking it in and atleast having an estimate done so that you know where you stand for parts and labor.glad i could help.
