how can I make sure that the timing on my 79 sporty is "ON?"

Answer
To make sure its "on" you need a timing light and a clear plug for the timing hole. Connect the timing light and install the timing plug. Start the bike and looking through the plug you will see the timing line. If not then move the ignition plate until you see it.
