Motorcycle Repair: 1991 Yamaha YZ125, yamaha yz125, oily residue

My bike is leaking a lot of black oily residue out of the exhaust joint.  I have been told that it sounds like I need to adjust the carb (b/c it is to rich).  What do you think?  If the carb. needs to be adjusted, can you advise how to adjust.  Thank you.  Bryan

Hi Bryan.
 I do not like to give advice on adjusting the carb as a first option.  Carbs do not change mixture on their own.  there has to be another issue.
 Since the bike is a 2-stroke, then you should make sure that the fuel;oil mix is right as well as checking the air filter (replace/clean if dirty), connections of both the manifold to the head as well as the carb to the manifold.  Also make sure that all the connections for the intake as well as exhaust are tightened properly.

 Start with that and see what you find.
