Motorcycle Repair: 2006 HD Dyna change over to Frw Controls, shift linkage, chrome cap

Question
I need to convert by 2006 Dyna to forward controls from the factory mid controls.  Looks like I'm going to have to have install the longer shift linkage which means taking the primary cover off and taking out the front top shifter lever.  Only leaving the rear lever which I will connect to my forward control with linkage.  What I would like to know is how difficult is it to take out this lever, is this something I should have the dealer do for $200?

Answer
Wrong.  You do not have to remove the midmount shift lever shaft.  It remains in place and a chrome cap goes over the outside end.  The inside end is held stationary by a tab that goes onto the rear crankcase stud.  The new lever goes from the tranny to the front bracket.  You just buy the forward control kit from Harley and you get all the pieces necessary along with great instructions.  You need kit 49080-06 which lists for $324.95.  You can do the job yourself without too much trouble if you're at all mechanically inclined.  Good Luck.
