Motorcycle Repair: Honda Cb250 wont start, honda cb250, local bike shop

Question
Hi. I'm new to motorcycles, having just bought my first learner's bike, a 1997 Honda CB250. It has been doing fine until this morning when it decided not to start. Lights come on but then die. I'm thinking the battery? Please Help!

Answer
Hi Ellen.

 It does sound like the battery could be bad.  The real test is by using a battery hygrometer.  You can find them at the local bike shop.  It also comes with instructions for use.

You could also have a problem with the charging system.

Get yourself a repair manual for the bike to be certain that you are performing all tests properly.  Manuals can be ordered at any good bike shop or your Honda motorcycle dealership as well as online at;

Good luck and ride safe.
