Motorcycle Repair: mallory ignition module, mallory ignition, mallory distributor

Question
i have a mallory distributor on my pan shovel. will leaving the ignition on cause the unilite module to burn out? will the voltage regulator {solidstate} burn out for the same reason? thanks , john

Answer
usually leaving the ignition on will cause the coil to heat up and crack, due to the fact that there is 12 volts going into it and roughly 30,000 volts trying to get out. Once the coil cracks it ruined. It will also cause the points and condencer to go bad. It wont hurt the regulator. There is no feedback to it from the coil.
Good luck and happy riding
