Motorcycle Repair: installing oil pressure gauge on 74 xlh, oil pressure gauge, oil pressure sending unit

Question
i bought a 1 1/2" 60 psi oil pressure gauge need installtion information

Answer
You just replace your oil pressure sending unit with the gauge, so you lose your oil pressure warning light.  If you want to run the light AND gauge you have to install a T-fitting into the engine case and thread your light sending unit AND the gauge into the T.  The sending unit is the round pipe-threaded unit on the lower front right side of your motor with a single wire coming from it.  Just cover the end of the wire with shrink tubing and wire-tie it to a place where it won't melt.  Don't know what kit you have but if you need fittings you can order them chromed from Drag Specialties online FATBOOK under "oil gauge fittings."  I'm not a fan of oil pressure gauges so I call them Worry Gauges.  Once you put it on all you do is keep looking at it and worrying when you think your pressure's too low.  Just remember, with a hot engine at idle your oil pressure can go as low as 5psi so, don't worry!!
