Motorcycle Repair: turn signals, honda xr250, halogen bulbs

Question
Bought a 96 Honda xr250 which has aftermarket blinkers and headlight. The bike has no battery. The headlight consists of 2 12v50w halogen bulbs 1 for low and the other for high, and the headlight is always on. The turn signals work correctly when the bike is idling but when given some revs the turn signals neither flash or illuminate. Wondering whether the problem is the rectifier/regulator, regulator, stator or something else? Checked for loose connections and found none. Help greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi Barry,

Sorry for the delay in replying to your question. I'm experiencing server problems.

Test charging system output and then check charging system components separately.

If your not sure how to perform these tets, get a copy of the repair manual and/or visit: www.electrosport.com and follow their "Fault Finding Charts."

Trace voltage through the lighting and turn indicator corcuits. Test all bulb filaments for continuity and bulb sockets for voltage. Test and inspect the circuit switches.

I think you'll locate the source of the problem with the above tests.

I need to know more about the lighting system and circuits to offer more accurate diagnosis or intel.
