-----Question-----  Ok, what is the proper setting for that screw? My bike is starting hard. cranks and cranks, and cranks before she finaly fires. plugs are black. I messed with that pumper screw thinkin it was idle. I aint a carb mech as you can tell.  Help me out here. Thanks.
Mike, I think I may have got my carb adjustment all outa wack. Can you tell me what the 3 screws are on the carb, facing the card, on left is throttle rpm screw, in center is fuel/air mixture, and on right is???
-----Answer-----
The one on the right is to set the pumper, which is for hard excelleration.
Good luck and happy riding

Answer
The pumper has really nothing to do with starting. The pumper give the bike a shot of gas under hard acceration.
What you need ot do is start the bike and let it warm up. Once its warm, go to the air/fuel mixture screw and slowly turn it inward, just until the bike starts the stumble and then back 1/4 of a turn. Now you have it set.
To set the pumper, ride the bike at about 50 MPR and give it gas, like your passing. If the bike stumbles open it about 1/4 of a turn. If the bike bogs, like its getting to much gas, then close it about 1/4 of a turn. Keep doing this until you get it set.
If your bike was running fine and just started fouling plugs, thn its probably not your carb. You could have a weak coil, or bad plug wires that is causing the problem
