Chrysler Repair: Intrepid power window, jumper wire, door switches

Question
I have a 95 Chrysler Intrepid and the passenger side front window won't go up only down from both switches (driver and passenger side). All other windows work properly. What can be wrong and how can I find the problem? Is there any way to crank it up manually until it gets fixed?

Answer
Hi Akos,
I assume that you tried switching with one of the other door switches with no success. The problem could be with the driver's master switch when it is in the 'off' position.
Why not check that you have continuity between pin 8 and all of the following pins ot that switch when its plug is removed: 2,3,4,6,7,9,10, and 11. If one or more of those are not 0 ohms, then that is your problem and you need to open that switch and clean the contacts.

Hi Akos,
There are two possibilities: the motor function is broken in one direction or the window is mechanically binding which prevents it from being raised. The only way to find out is to remove the door panel and test the motor with a jumper wire from the battery in both directions, and then remove the mechanical drive (regulator) from the glass and its lift plate and see whether the glass is free to move.  If it isn't free to move the motor will not try to lift the glass as a protection against damaging the motor and mechanism. If you can get a hold of the glass you might try pulling up on it while a helper tries to initiate the motor action to see if the glass will move and the motor will take over the task once you get it started. There are a couple of pages about the power windows and about removing the door trim panel which I could xerox and postal mail to you if you would like to investigate this yourself.
Just use the 'rate the expert' and you will find a comments area where you can enter text.
Unfortunately there is no way to mechanically raise the window except as I described above where you try to make sure it is free to move and give the motor a hand in accomplishing the task.
