Motorcycle Repair: tank liner removal, gas tank liner, nuts and bolts

i have a 2002 Indian scout and the gas tank liner is peeling on the right side tank.i was wondering if you knew how to remove this because it is next to impossible to find matching tanks.do you know of any chemical that would remove this without cutting the tank open and bead blast it.thanks for your help.rob

Hey Rob, Try using acetone or muriatic acid diluted with water.Carefull not to spill on painted area for it will damage surface.KEEP A CLOSE WATCH ON IT.You may also have to place some nuts and bolts inside of tank to swish around to help agitate the liner off.The whole liner will probably not come off.So you will have to purchase a after market liner kit (KREEM TANK SEAL KIT...),to reseal it afterwards.Good luck and remember to wear safety goggles and gloves.
