Motorcycle Repair: v-star 2003 1100cc, starter solenoid, starter relay

Question
My bike wont start ,the starter doesnt even turn over but i connected a wire from my battery to it and it does work. With it in neutral i hold the clutch in and all it does is click at the starter relay that is under the seat. The battery has a full charge. If I sit on the bike and put the kickstand up and pull the clutch in it does the exact same. All fuses are good. The starter relay just keeps clicking.Does that mean i need a new one?Its a easy fix.Could it be the starting circuit cutoff relay I just dont know? Can you  please help I dont really have the cash to put it in the shop or try out different parts. Thx Paul

Answer
Hi Paul.

It could be the sidestand relay, the clutch relay, the starter solenoid or even the battery.

As far as the battery, it may be showing full volts, but is it holding full amps?  The starter motor needs the amps to turn over as much as it needs the volts.

Get the repair manual out and run through the wiring diagram as well and check for shorts, loose connections and dirty connections as well.

Good luck and ride safe.
