Motorcycle Repair: 2000 Yamaha R6, yamaha dealer, motor generator

Question
Hey mark,
I have a major problem with this bike first is the bike ran perfect when I got it but now its not starting and will not hold a battery charge also when I was riding the bike the gauges would start blinking then totally shut off but the bike is still on and running but eventually it will turn back on after awhile. Third is when I was riding the bike it started to feel as if it was bogging out like it is out of fuel and start to die slowly but after I let it sit for a while it would fire right back up but again die and since then it will never start again all I hear is "clicking" sounds but battery is fully charged and sometimes the gauges do not light up at all and even sometimes when I'm trying to start up the bike I would hear nothing no clicking no nothing. Like I said major problem for me I'm thinking it could be the starter motor, generator or something electrical. Please Help

Answer
Hi Chris,

The problem may simply be a loose electrical connection. It may be mor ecomplex, too. This kind of electrical problem needs to be inspected by a tech.

It's too difficult to try and walk you through the diagnosis process. Consider getting a copy of the service manual and follow the trouble shooting procedures. Still, it's not easy diagnosing electrical problems for someone who is not experienced.

A Yamaha dealer has diagnostic equipment that can help with diagnosis. I recommend that you have a local Yamaha tech inspect the problem for you. It's expensive, but so is replacing non-defective parts in hopes of correcting a problem.
