Motorcycle Repair: 2004 Dyna tach, tach light, metal pins

Question
Installed Harley tach kit on my dyna custom with no problems what so ever. Instructions were great and the harness was a plug in. Only problem being the tach light works and then doesen't. I have checked all connections and even used a little dilectic grease but the light still works when it wants to. My dealer says those late model tachs are "not serviceable". Forget about warranty as I bought the kit on e bay. I know its not a big deal but can you help?
Thanks, Biker John

Answer
John this is a tough one because you can't pinpoint the problem with a meter when the light IS working.  I would just check the bulb, the bulb socket, all ground connections and then look at all the plastic plug connectors.  Pull them apart and make sure all the little metal pins are straight and that all are inserted into the plug housing all the way until they click.  Sometimes they pop back when the connector is plugged together and they don't make a good contact.  If it's an internal problem in the tach it's not serviceable.  Good Luck.
