Motorcycle Repair: Cylinder 1 not firing, header pipes, plug cap

Question
I have a 1984 fj1100.  It starts and can idle but when i hit the throttle it stalls.  I checked the petcock and it seems fine so i tried it again and touched the header pipes and noticed that cylinder #1 is cold (same one the vaccum hose comes from).

how do i diagnose this problem, the spark plugs are new.  I don't now if this is a fuel problem or an electrical problem.  What order should i test things in?  Thanks for any help

Answer
Hi Doug,

Check for an arc with the spark plugs grounded against the cylinder head. If arc is present, it's likely fuel related. If no arc, the ignition system components need tested.

The #1 plug lead or spark plug cap may be leaking current/defective. Check plugs by swapping plugs and checking for an arc.

I suspect the #1 carburetor is not working properly. Will cylinder #1 pipe get hot if the throttle is opened above 1/4 thorttle? If so, the pilot and choke circuits are obstructed and need cleaned, and/or the fuel service level in carb #1 may be improperly set.

I return tech information files by email. There was no email address with your question as requested and explained in my instructions.
