Motorcycle Repair: Royal Star Venture Alignment, royal star venture, wheel alignment

Question
Hello Chris:

My question is related to a previous question to you from Gary regarding a Royal Star Venture that seemed to point to the right.  Your answer to that question was dated 5/5/2006.  I am now on my second Royal Star Venture, having a 2005 for about 3000 km and now a 2006 with about 1000 km.  I also have noticed this tendancy to point to the right on both of my Royal Star Ventures.  In fact, the reason I had my 2005 RSV for only 4 weeks was that it was in the Yamaha shop having the wheel alignment checked when it was totalled off in an accident while being test ridden by the dealer.

Question is, what could make the handlebar and fairing assembly point slightly to the right on these bikes.  I can assure you that neither of them had been in any kind of accident.  They both handled just fine, but still, the fairing points off to the right ever so slightly.  Did you ever get a response from Gary after you told him that someone must have had an accident with his bike before he got it?   Was his bike new as well?

Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated.

Ron

Answer
Hi Ron.

I never did get a response from Gary afterward.  As far as what could cause a new, undamaged bike to do that, there are any number of stupid little reasons.  The most likely could be bad assembly and initial prep from the dealer.
There is also the possibility that there are bad mounts for the fairing or that the mounting points are damaged.  It is rare, but happens.

I would take the bike to a dealership or a reputable shop and have it checked out thoroughly.

Good luck and ride safe.
