Motorcycle Repair: headgasket repair, honda cbr f3, 1996 honda cbr f3

Question
I'm thinking of buying a 1996 Honda CBR F3, and I just been told this bike has some problems. There are cam chain guild issues and there is a possible blown head gasket from backfire. My question is would either of these repair if needed be very costly, if so how much by your best estament, and is and is $800 to much? thanks for your help in advance.

Answer
Hi Stephan,

Many CBR's have head gasket problems.

$800 is about the figure I had in mind for the repair work. Most shops and dealerships operate on a flat-rate system. The average rate in Dayton, Ohio area is between $48 and $60 per hour.

Shop techs and service managers consult flat-rate time charts for the time given to do specific repairs. Customers pay the flat-rate listed. Techs may complete the repairs in more or less time, depending upon their efficiency.

I recommend that you consider buying a dependable motorcycle that you can enjoy immediately and without mechanical worries.
