Motorcycle Repair: 1986 vt700 shadow, carburetor bodies, throttle grip

Question
the throttle grip on this bike only turns aboy 1/4th the way when accelerating.what might the problem be?

Answer
Calvin, either you have some kind of mechanical blockage in the carb butterfly valves/shafts or linkages or the throttle grip is turning over the throttle drum. Beyond that, the throttle cable may be unraveling inside due to corrosion damage. Don't drive it until you fix it. Take the cable loose from the throttle housing and check the condition of the throttle drum and grip. Disconnect the cable and grab the cable end with some pliers, wrapped with a rag and pull on the cable end. If it doesn't move, then disconnect the cables at the carbs and check again. If cables move okay, then the carburetor bodies will need examining to see if the problem is linkage related externally.
