Volvo: Reving on its own, 2000 volvo s40, volvo s40

Question
Hi, I have a 2000 Volvo S40 apparently it has a Mitsibushi GDI engine. The engine management light has come on and the car keeps reving up on its own. Volvo have said that this is due to the throttle housing being coaked up. Suggesting a nice bill. Could it be taken off and cleaned or are there any other alternatives. Many thanks

Answer
Claire,
The throttle hosuing system has been the cause of many problems. If you feel comfortable doing the work, go about it carefully and after you are done you will need a shop to read the exsisting fault codes and then clear them. There is not a quick fix for this problem and removal will be the only way to clean it out.
