Motorcycle Repair: my fuel valve, honda rebel 250, gas valve

every time i ride my honda rebel 250 (it is an 86) my leg smells like gasoline. I think maybe my gas valve is leaking. I touched it today after I started the bike and on the bottom of the valve my fingers had gasoline on it, is that normal? And what can I do about it. And how do I know when the gas valve is open. It show a off sign and something with RSP or something...what does that mean?

I usually only answer questions on harleys, but I might be able to help. SInce you have a leak you need to replace you petcock in the gas tank.
As to the RSP, I do not know what that stands for. Harleys say off, on and res.
