Motorcycle Repair: motor stopped, gsxr 750, clutch side

Question
I have a 1993 GSXR 750.  It has been wrecked (probably more than once!).  Today it started ok, then while riding slow in a parking lot, the engine died and could not be restarted.  I had the battery tested and charged and was told that the battery is ok.
The headlights work, but there is no sound at all when attempting to start the bike.
What should I look at?
Thank you for your help.

Answer
Hi Joe,

I recommend that you get a copy of the service manual and learn about troubleshooting and repairing your GSX-R. It's the best $30 you'll spend on your MC.

Most local libraries carry service manuals.

Check the battery cable connections for clean, tightly fastened connections.

Check all electrical connectors for loose or disconnected connectors.

Check wiring for defects.

Check safety switches for proper operation; clutch, side stand, and neutral.

Check ignition switch and on/off switch for proper operation.

Give the above a try and advise. Include your email address as requested and explained in my instructions. I return tech information files by email.

Respectfully,
