Motorcycle Repair: 2000 Yamaha Beartracker, cylinder compression, compression test

Question
Hi Mark,

I have a Beartracker that is such a pain. I have done a lot of work on it from replacing the CDI box, boring it and new piston and rings, and it won't start. Carb is fine. has gas, plug is fine, its firing, but it just keeps turning over and over and over. The timing is right. I just don't know what else it could be. Any Suggestions on what else to do? I would appreciate your help.

Answer
Hi Darrell,

Perform a cylinder compression test and reply with the test reading.

Add a tablespoon of oil to the cylinder before the test. This compensates for the lack of sealing of a cool engine.
