Motorcycle Repair: synthetic oil, honda gold wing, added oil

Question
I recently purchased a 1984 Honda Gold Wing 1200 Standard and rode a 1000 miles home from where I'd bought it. I'd checked the oil but the bike may not have been as level as optimal. After riding it for about a month I noticed a ticking sound in the motor (sticking lifter maybe?), checked the oil and it was real low, added oil and it quieted it some. I'm going to change the oil and filter to see if that helps. My question is, should I go with a synthetic oil? Would that effect my clutch? I haven't picked up a service manual for this bike yet. Also, the bike has 79,000 miles on it, but seems to have been maintained very well. That is until I got my hands on it and was stupid enough to let the oil run low. Thanks Scott

Answer
i would only go with regular oil unless you know for sure it has been using synthetic oil you stand a chance of harming it more, also if the oil ran too low it would more than likely be knocking not ticking i am a religus believer in catsrol 20/50 i dont care what people say i have had sucess for 30 years with it never substituted did without oil change if auto parts was out till i found some.hope this help you bud.
